New build in the making.

Hey guys,

Haven't been around for a while. After lifting my 72 I was pretty happy with it, I purchased a miata, turbo'd it and have been working on that way too much. But I've been itching to start working on my truck again. And I think I finally came up with an idea I like. Now whether it works is a whole different story

I have a line on a mid 90's single cab long bed 7.3 powerstroke, hopefully on the cheap. I think you see where this is going. Engine swap? Nope, I want to to a body swap onto the 7.3 frame.

Couple reasons. The 7.3 has a stronger drivetrain and suspension to support the weight and power. I want a 3/4 ton truck. If I end up towing I want to frame to support anything I need and I think the 7.3 will be better.

I've found a couple threads on this, and although it won't be easy I think I can make it work.

Any advice, comments, info is appreciated!!!

Right? I'm sure there will be some "gotchas" along the way but I think I can make it work, and I think it will be a better final product than a straight 7.3 swap.

Oh you know, just internet stalking you. I happen to know about stuff other than miatas and... umm... I'm not sure how receptive this forum will be to the other stuff so I'll just assume you know what I'm talking about.

Still waiting to hear from the family friend about the 7.3. In the past they have been incredibly generous, and I'm hoping it will continue here, if I get it for the right price it will be in my driveway within the month.

I thought about doing this same thing with my 97 in the future. I think it's a great idea. Hope it comes to fruition for you.

G is here!?

I thought about this swap a lot last night. How close is the wheel base between both trucks? I did a little reading and it looks like the 97 is about 18" longer center to center, but I can't really confirm that.

Plasma cutter

I don't want this to be a if it doesn't work give up kind of project. Its more of a how far do I have to go kind of project.

I think I'll go ask in the 94-97 forum and try and get some measurements.
