factory clock?

I had recently found a factory clock for my truck and in stalled it in to my truck. It works all right so far. I just for the life of me cannot figure out how to set the date and time. and what is the button that says "E-Time"? The truck is an 86. i am not shure what year the truck is that the clock came out of though i am thinking it was an 85. any help would be great thanks

E/Time is Elapsed time,it's the time that a stopwatch reads.

Here's a page from a manual someone posted awhile back, there was a whole thread on how to set the clock with pages like this.I'm not sure what year this is,but I don't think it should be too different.

That would have been me, it's from the 84 manual. 80-86 are all the same though.
Here's the rest of the section on the clock:

'80-'81 had a different clock, you had to pull the button out and up to set

Ahh, yes, now that you mention it, I have seen one of those before. Seems they are more rare than the later style.

It's actually 1980-1982. But otherwise correct.

On 1980-1982 you need a ball point pen.

Pull out the time button untill it locks, then use the ball point pen to press the recessed switches on the right. When the time is set, press the time button in untill it locks. The date button is set with the same proceedure.

The E-Time button is reset by pulling it out untill it reads zero. If it doesn't pull out on the first attempt, press it in and try again.

1983-1986 is covered in the manual posted above.

hope this helps.

Strange, on my 81 (factory) clock, you push the button in then use a pen/pointed object to set the time. You pull out the trip button if you want to reset to zero and start the clock.

Here is the Factory Clock instructions from the 1981 F-Series Owners Manual.

1980-1982 are the same. If you notice it explains the clock functions as I described earlier.

Hope This Helps

The recessed switch on the 80-82 clocks is the worst design compared to the 83-86's push button design.

I have an 85 clock sittin in the shop, and for the sake of originality I wanted to keep the 80-82 clock in my truck, but since it doesn't work,I'm thinking about putting the 85 clock in.Besides,83-86 clocks are everywhere,I can't find 80-82 clocks anymore.

ok, i had a chance to try the above mentioned. It is a clock fron an 85. but i have got a problem now. When i turn the key on the date comes on first for a second then the time comes on like it is suppose to. Also when i turn the key on the "E-Time" starts. Trying to set the Date & time is another thing. I can get the Minutes/Day to move one or two times but nothing more then that. The clock does dim when i turn the headlights on. When i turn the key on and leave it on for a few minutes and turn it off for a couple seconds then back on it retains memory but anything longer than that the clock resets altogether. i checked and doubles checked the wiring it is all set up right and working correctly. i would just need to try to figure out what is going on with the clock. Maybe a resistor gone bad or something i could replace?

you probably have the "memory" wire hooked to an 12v ignition source, needs constant 12v

I tend to agree. You do not need to have a ball point pen with the 1983-1986 clock to set it.

The wiring of the clocks are different because the 1980-1982 clock has a backlit LED display and the 1983-1986 has a more modern type LED display. The only wires that are different are as follows.

1980-1982: Lt. Blue/Red stripe wire: Clock Display dimmer. Hooked into instrument cluster dimming circut.

1983-1986: Brown Wire: Clock Display Dimmer. Hooked into parking lamp circut.

The 1980-1982 clock is indeed more rare, and it was also used one year less than it's 1983-1986 counterpart.

1980-1982 = 3 Years
1983-1986 = 4 years

Don't forget to check the Broncos for these clocks as well, as they were more apt to have the clocks than their pickup counterparts.

2 questions about the wiring:

1 - Is the harness side the same style plug in both model clocks?

2 - Is there any chance that an 81 Custom F100 would have a harness without a clock circuit?

Seems odd to me that production would run with two styles and I'm more inclined to think that one of the P.O.s hacked it out for a radio (judging by the 'custom' hole in the bezel) but want to confirm.
