ruschejj is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
It seems that there is some confusion here. Correct me if I am wrong but for the '08 6.4 there have been 2 PCM software updates. Are we now discussing a 3rd update or are some folks finally getting the 2nd update?

1st PCM program allowed regen at idle. Did not display message for more than a few seconds.

2nd PCM program disabled regen at idle, message displayed for duration of cycle, auto trans. shift points adjusted for smoothness/economy.

3rd? I can't figure out what people are saying about it because it sounds like some are describing the changes from 1 to 2.

I have a job 2 08 and believe that I had the 2nd PCM update (no regen in park and message display for the duration of the regen process). After getting the truck back from the dealer early this week, I notice that the regen message only stays on for a few seconds.

I'm assuming that the dealers can't/won't/shouldn't (i hope) go backwards on PCM updates.

That is what I beleive to be correct. A third update. This one I heard gets worse MPG and lower boost.

I am with you Ruschejj. I am confused about this thread. I have not heard about a third flash. After I had the PCM flash # 2 done everything was better.
I will ask my dealer if there is a third update. If there is and people are having all these problems with it I definately will not get it done.

I think it's the 3rd flash.

I took my truck in for routine maintenance two weeks ago and when I got it back they said the updated the computer with the latest software. So far, no problems. Definitely lower boost across the entire RPM range. Transmission shifts smoother and at a slightly lower MPH range. No noticeable difference in power. Mileage is still the same at 13.5 average (but I run 4.30's with 37's and a 4.5 Icon lift). Haven't towed yet, but don't expect it to be any different.

Well, I am looking at the service bulletin for my job 1 truck and it states the cleaning exhaust filter is supposed to stay lit until its done with the regen. I have a feeling that this is not occurring due to an error on the install.

I want to confirm that the latest flash (30 days ago) did several things
for my 2008 Job 1 450; 4.3 axles.

1. upshifts about 2 mph sooner, warm and cold
2. dash light re cleaning only on 10 seconds (more below)
3. ford site says truck will automatically regen every 667 miles regardless of sensor readings and miles since last regen. This will probably help Ford replace a lot fewer DPF's.
4. a tiny improvement in empty mileage - none when pullig which is what I usually do.

Once I hit 18k miles and the December 2008 flash, I have consistently regened every 100-120 miles pulling, maybe 200 empty - don't ask me why. I use trip B to track mileage since last regen (more below) MPG's remain about what others with 4.3 and 19.5 dually';s get without tuners 8-9 pulling high profile 14k 5th wheel at 60-65 depending upon terrain; 11-13 empty. 3 flashes haven't really changed a thing other than the original reflash that stopped regen in park.

With current flash, if i want to know if it in regen is in progress, I simply press system check and the reset. that cycles through the engine hours etc; each lasting about 2 seconds. If it is in regen, "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" will be the last message before returning to the regular screen. That Cleaning message seems to be on screen for a bit longer than the others, but not for very long. If you think you saw it but aren't sure, simply do it again. I check my tip B as I aproach home. If close to a 100 mile interval (I might have missed one) I do the simple system check/reset. I am fortunate in that almost every regen of my truck is 10 minutes long on the highway; 10 miles long in town (that can get ugly when in traffic).

What I really hate is that the dash no longer toells me Cleaning, which for my truck meant, and still does mean, don't even think about trying to pass someone or pull into traffic.

Hope this helps.
