Put an engine heater on your vehicle

Probably the best investment you can make on any vehicle is an engine heater an it will make you money. First plug that sucker in for 3 to 4 hrs a night. Get in to your vehicle no warm up needed just drive off. At best that heater will cost you about .15 for those 4hrs its on. Idling your vehicle could use up to a gallon off gas. Last time i checked gas was 2.65. Heater would pay for itself in no time an you will be tasty warm immediately. Starting a warm engine means you cut down on the wear off the motor tremendously so longer engine life.

Would be interesting to know if you have a selective, reading problem.
He was being serious, if you are willing to listen. Some brands of oil filters are known to have very poor anti-drainback valves, causing the lifter galleries on some engines to empty overnight, hence the lifter noise on startup. Those oil filters can be painted bright orange, but are sometimes other brands made by the same company.

Talking

I have a 2000 Explorer Sport with the 4.0 V6. I have no lifter noise at cold start up, Oil used: Chevron Supreme 5w30 and a Motorcraft FL1-A oil filter. I have also used Mobil Clean 5000 5w30 (same oil filter) with the same result. Engine starts immediately and idles smoothly even if it's not driven for 4-5 days (albeit it is in a garage when not in use).

Sand_Man is starting off with a positive reputation.
Around here, lots of people go outside and warm up their cars then head back in the house to let the heater warm up. In the past few years, there has also been a rash of car thefts directly attributed to this practice. You don't even need to be a good thief, just open the door and drive off, with a warm car to boot!

Exactly! The only thing Sandman, is those jackals who let their cars, SUVs, trucks ect. idle so theives can steal them, essentially cause you and I to pay higher insurance premiums to cover the insurance company's losses!

I've said for years now, many people lack common sense - it will never change and the innocent will continue to pay.
