The 5.7 are good motors got 100k on my magnum and it get 22-28mpg all the time with a 4000 pound car. But if im buying a truck its going to be diesel, or have the biggest engine in it.
My 5.7l is treating me good too. My '03 ram has close to 80,000 miles and haven't had any engine related problems -- pretty good for a first year engine.
I don't like the Dodge 5 speed auto gear ratios. I don't think it is suited well for a truck. I prefer the Ford torqueshift.

I like there to be options availiable, unfortunatly Chrysler has a history of packaging the options people want only with the high end loaded models. I tried pricing a Gr. Cherokee with a deisel and the good 4x4 system, and the cheapest build I could do was well over $40k. I looked at getting a hard top cenvertable...not with a 4 popper. Want locking axles, gotta get a loaded wrangler or 3/4 ton if you do, priced about twice what the plain jane models go for.
I think the light duty Fiat Deisel and keeping the Cummins for the HD is a smart move on thier part.
as for a unibody replacement for the Dakota....They are bringing back the Jeep Comanchee?
WTF?!?! annnootttheeerr hemi? what is this the 3rd motor called a hemi? wow thats pathetic. ill agree they are decent motors but why are we still calling it "the hemi" ......?5.7 hemi, 6.2 hemi now 6.4 hemi? lol what'll they come up with next? another hemi maybe!
I agree. On top of all that, it is not even a hemisphereical design. They should get sued for false advertizing

They call them all that because Hemi is short for the hemispherical combustion chambers that the Dodge motors have. Not a catch phrase, it is what it says. That's like saying, "why do we keep calling new motors V8's?" Um, because they are. We are calling it a hemi because it is. On a side note my John Deere lawn tractor has a Kawasaki motor that is coincidentally enough, a hemi. I guess they can't capitalize on the name though.

I can now only think of putting a Hemi Badge on my John Deere!

the old hemis were true hemis, the new ones are like everything else currently made. if the 5.7 is a hemi, so is the 5.4, the 5.3 and virtualy everything else under the sun. Its just a name that is not necisarily indicitave of the truth... like the famous 5.0L Ford; its really a 4.9L.
Actually, the term semi-hemi was first used in 1963 referring the the 427 Chevy engine in NASCAR that had canted valve heads. At least that's the first time I've heard the term used.
