Removed smog.. More or Less power?

Hey there.. (1985 Bronco XLT 351W Carb) I removed my smog pump and all associated stuff including egr(replaced intake and carb). Plugged heads. I never drove my truck with smog attached.. Does the truck have more power with smog or less power?

It won't make any difference unless some part of what you removed was leaking or malfunctioning badly. Some of the carbed motor also have a stupid butterfly valve in the passenger side exhaust right after the manifold that often seizes partially closed, if that happens there will be a severe loss of power.

That there "stupid butterfly" has been around long before the smog equipment btw. Just to make it clear that it's not an emissions item. Called a "heat riser", it blocked one side of a V8 to force exhaust through passages in the intake manifold when the engine was cold. They often froze up. Examples, my dad's '58 F600 with a 292 had one, a family friend's '60s FE equipped Custom and Galaxie sedans had them. As a result in those cars, the right side exhaust rusted out in 1/3 the time as the left. I think my '65 289 Mustang had one too.

Conanski is right here. If you remove the smog pump and emissions equipment the only real gain in HP is from not having those accessories being driven by the belt/belts anymore... which is next to nothing because most of the HP loss from accessory drive starts with the power steering pump, and then the water pump..... so its next to nothing you gain from not running it.... just make sure it functions properly so you don't lose power.
