390 has no power

I have a .060 over 390 in my truck. It was built a while ago. When I got it it had little power. You have to hold the brakes to spin the back tires. If you put it in 1st and stomp the gas it will not spin. I have had the heads redone, new timing set, on it. It also has a performer rpm intake, 600 holley, headers and twin exhaust. It has developed a bad lifter tap so in about a week I am going to put in an edelbrock performer cam and lifters. I was wondering why it was so week. My basically stock 302 maverick could destroy it in a race. I know the truck is probaly a 1000lb hevier but I figured with an extra 100 cubic inches it should be pretty fast

What pistons? It is possible you have an 8:1 or even lower compression ratio. If it has the roundish stock cam and low compression, it could be pretty mousey. Other factors are axle ratio and tires with respect to lighting the tires. If you have low compression, select your cam carefully as some grinds will make the low compression worse, as the longer durations will bleed off cylinder pressure, which is already in short supply.

dfwrider is new and has a neutral reputation at this point.
When I first got my 1965 F250 with np435 (4 speed granny) and a 4.56 rear end (think that number is close), I could pull away from a level stop in 3rd gear with no problem. and 4th came pretty quickly ...which I rode all the way up to a top speed of 65 mph, and I was too chicken to rev it any faster. And I watched my fuel gauge literally moving. I could also smoke the tires in the first 2 gears from a stop, and 3rd gear while after speeding up just a little. This is not the behavior I wanted. I had a 3.00 rear end, axle and all on the truck. No more burn outs. I can still get up and go pretty good, but it's tame. But I can also go 112mph (gps verified), and I'm probably good to 120mph. But on the expressway at 65mph, the motor is just loaf'n. I get a solid 16mpg. And if I need to pass someone, I just smoothly roll on the throttle. did i mention no more burnouts? it was a good trade off. this truck is a driver now.
