then imagine a 466 pushing around 400hp and 1200 pounds of tork in an unsuspecting 58. I still think that a 6.6 would be the hot ticket in an old truck.
i just drove a 2006 rental international 4300 box truck 550 miles. what ever that truck had in it, i dont want it. It also felt like the cheap cab was going to fly off the chassis.

Rentals usually have the least power ratings, so dont let that turd be the judge of a good engine. If it was a VT365, then it would be around 175hp, and a DT466E would be around 195hp. World of difference between the electronic and mekanikal injection too.
You should try riding in the 06 IH 7400 I drive at work. It's literally on the front bumpstops. I've spilled a few drink cups in there, and go home Fridays with a sore back.

I think i spilled more than my drink in there, maybe some spinal fluid. Also damaged all of the wood furniture. I was cussing all of the way around the LA area freeways.
Anyway, so there is a better engine the DT466? whats the displacement?

The 466 is just that, 466 cubes, 7.6 litre. The ones to look for are around 88 or 89, when they started using roller lifters. Then, anything newer up to late 95 in CA. In 93-95, they had a P-pump just like the ones on the Dodge/Cummins. The down side is they weigh 1400 pounds. With the Ford 6.6 you would only save 200 pounds off that. I had some notes on my computer someplace that have some measurements of one. I was using them to do my own 466 swap in a Super Duty. The measurements IH gives on their website arent accurate, it just gives total length & height. I got it:
-oil pan mounting flange to the top of the valve cover - 29"
-rear of head to front tip of waterpump - 41"
-min. width at rear to clear the head and exh manifold- 14"
-intake tube inlet from top of the valve cover(93-95's)- 5.5"
I took these measurements, so leave a half inch accuracy factor, but it's to give an idea of fit.
I noticed when i compared my f700 fender to a light truck fender, it seems to be a good 5 inches longer front to back, giving me more room under the hood possibly. So the International harvester of pancakes diesel should fit.

I know where you can get one for $1000, and it's the new generation one with the P-pump. It's in Stockton, at Acme. If Santa Rosa wasnt so far away, I'd offer to deliver it. I'm still running gas power at 13mpg.
