Is there a real good, easy, nice fitting voltage gauge fpr my truck? It came with everything but that one, and I'm going on 3rd set of batteries now. Sure would love to know what's going on with my voltage FORD!
Would appreciate it if anyone has good suggestions. I hate tacky looking aftermarket stuff.
If you don't like the look of after market stuff, then your options will be pretty limited. You could upgrade to one of those fancy in dash radio / gps / kitchen sink things. The one my wife has in her truck can read voltage. (Pioneer Avic)
The other option would be just to drop $15 at wally world and get you one that plugs into the lighter socket that you can just remove whenever you don't want to see it.
I've checked the accuracy of that little thing with my scanner and the readings always match.
Thanks, but my cig lighter has too many things plugged in to use it on a regular basis. Are there any where you can mount just the volt meter on the windshield pillar? I've seen triple gauge sets on the pillar, but never a single gauge.
If it were me, I'd consider maybe adding just more than one gauge though. Factory gauges aren't always the most accurate, and there may be something else you'd like to accurately monitor. If not, the link above has a single gauge mount for the pillar, and Dennis is a good guy to deal with.
I'd get one that blends in well and you like the looks of. Stick with any of the popular brands and you should be fine. Diprocol, Isspro, Autometer, etc. If you've got a 6.0, you could even go overboard and order one of Joey's gauges. Terminator Engineering
It will read voltage, along with a number of other things, as well as read trouble codes and run some tests.
How about the stock voltage gauge? In trucks with the stock non upgraded odometer readout you can press and hold down the trip reset button. You have to have the key in the off spot press and hold down the trip reset button and while holding it down turn the key to the run mark about 15 secs and it will pop up a full DTC menu. You can see about 20 different DTC rpms voltage tps and so on. There is also a self test feature for the radio.

If it breaks, well, it needed replacing anyway.
I think you should spend your money to diagnose your problem. Try using a DVM (there relatively inexpensive) for measurements while troubleshooting. Give us some more info on your problem so we can try to further help you with the situation.

There's no real issue to trouble shoot, it's just cheap batteries today. I have a dual setup and a large truck camper that I use several times a year. It never fails that you find one of the batteries failing just as I'm pulling out of the driveway for a trip. Of course you don't know which one it is. Without a voltage gauge, there's no way other than the dreaded slow or no start to know that one is going bad. Just looking for a little more 'insurance' as I pay pretty good attention to my gauges.
