Told I need an injector, what to do?

I have been having rough start up problems about 3 months now and have just blown it off because when it is warm it runs fine. All it does is run rough at first but after a few miles it runs and pulls strong. No smoke or lights on or anything like that.

I go to a ford dealership and end up having the worst day I have had in a long time. They do tests and find that the #5 injector is bad, then they give me a quote of $2,592!! Charged me $190 to look at it and do diagnostics. They quoted me for an injector, FICM, regulator kit, de-carb, fuel filters, pcm-reprogram, and short and tall stand pipes. I call another dealership and told them what I was quoted and they laughed and said they think just an injector would fix it. Stand pipes and all that other stuff would make it miss out all the time they say. I have a friend who is a diesal mechanic and he said he was always told when you replace an injector they try to make you get a FICM every time.

I am just wondering what you guys think about this quote with my symptoms? My buddy the diesal mechanic says hell no that he will just replace the injector for me for a $100. I believe this dealership is crooked even though it is a big dealership here because when I took it in and my power steering hose was leaking a little (just a drip here and there). I go to get it back and he says watch out, your power steering leaks pretty bad and your truck might smoke because we just put power steering fluid but I had just checked it Sunday. I barely made it home, the crap was shooting out everywhere and the truck was grinding horribly. Get home and the rest runs out in to my driveway, he says it was like that when it came in (a real surprise since my driveway has no puddles other than the huge one there now). I am just really frustrated right now and not sure what to do and just looking for guidance.

texans is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
I would say an injector would fix your problem. I wouldn't go back to that dealer unless you had too. And if your buddy knows what he is doing and says he will fix it for $100 then get an injector and get him to fix it. You will not find a cheaper price anywhere. If you have the cash I would change all 8. IMHO when one goes the others are not far behind.

What are you saying about your truck smoking?? What did they say would cause it?

You can test the fICM yourself, but the real question is what were (or was) the codes (DTC's)?

Also, what year model and how many miles? Any mods?

Truck does not smoke at all, none whatesoever. It is an 06 with 111,000 miles with no mods. I am looking at diagnostics and do not see a code anywhere.
