Hello All,
Sometimes we are asked to do things that are unpleasant or dreaded. This is the task that I have been asked to help with. My brother in laws love was pickup trucks. He past away and my sister has asked me to help her sell his two prized trucks. Both of them are proving difficult to find the right place and price to list them for sale. For example: 2004 Ford lightning with 806 miles on it! (Gee, I wish he'd have enjoyed it more.)1968 Ford Ranger Shortbed with 390 cu. inch. If you guys had trucks like these how would you market them and how would you achieve a fair market value.
thanks in advance,
Bob
it depends on the condition and the local area prices.
Options are also a concern. Like with the 68 especially. 4x4? auto trans? rust? milage? The 68 is hard to just slap a price on it because of the previous.
But the lightning you should try and get about 20k. For where to list them, list both in your local paper, on craigslist, and that should be good for your 68. With the lightning thats in that good of shape go for somthing like cars.com and autotrader.com
be sure to include pictures when you are trying to sell them, alot of people are like me and wont even click on a ad unless it has pictures.
sorry to hear about your circumstance.
You know you should just buy the lightning for your self and keep it in the familly
Welcome to the forum and best of luck!

Go to Autotrader.com and do a little research. This site is nationwide and you should be able to get a good idea of what that Lightning is worth in your region. Regarding the Ranger, well that is a tough one. A one off like that can be a tough sell until you find the one guy that is dying to have one. I would guess Craigslist for that one. Good luck.
Make sure you post the ad in all the Lightning and SVT specific forums.
Where are you located?

Bob, drop me an email. I have some questions about the L, and since selling on this forum isn't allowed, it would be easier for you to email me.

Sorry for your loss.Make sure you post the ad in all the Lightning and SVT specific forums.
i agree. if you want top dollar, you will have to appeal to the masses. getting it out there will find the right person, who may be interested as a collector. especially a lightning with less than 1000 miles!
Hey Guys,
Just want to thank all of you for the sales advice. I have listed the Lightning on the NLOC website. Any and all recomendations to the ad will be appreciated.
Double H
For the L...I would try to command top dollar. There aren't many available in good condition...and especially with "Brand New" mileage. I'm betting it's completely cherry.
a few things that will help get the Serious Buyers involved:
Take close-up pictures of the truck. Start from the Drivers Headlight and get 1 good picture of every body panel.
Then Get 8 good far off shots. 1 shot at each side and front/back (=4 total), then 1 shot at each corner showing 2 sides at once (=4 total).
Now get 1-2 pictures of the original tires/rims (to show how it was driven) and snap a few motor shots.
And I'd say at least 4 interior shots. 1 dash (with mileage showing), 1 door panels, 1 showing the drivers seat, 1 showing floorboard
It's a bit of a PITA getting all of the angles. But it shows you are serious.
The L is a pretty hot commodity to be selling, especially in that condition. You are likely to garner attention from anywhere in the USA, so it's best to get all of the photo's out of the way.
Alternatively, you might place the L under Commission at the local Ford Dealership...pick the biggest you can find locally. They will get you a sale. It just depends on how much the Commission costs are gonna run you
