A little 2.3 eye candy

The stock carb came apart on my Courier, and this 1.21 2150 is too small for anything else I have here.
It's nice to be able to accelerate on the highway now.

I used to have a 2.0, had sidedrafts on it till someone stole 'em. (Talk about sexy-looking though!) I stuck the stock manifold back on, put on a 2-to-4bbl adapter and stuck a Holly 450 4bbl on it...talk about throttle response! With the small primaries, that thing was a neck snapper!

Yeah, this is all temporary and aside from the air cleaner is all stuff I had lying around. I'm yanking this oil-puking thing as soon as I can find a suitable replacement. Something diesel, or v8 most likely. Now back to the reality of me being broke-

I just couldn't bring myself to spend $35 and a few hours "fixing" the Craptachi pile they called a carburetor on these things. Never met a Hitachi anything that worked right, especially after 30years.
I did have to rework the throttle linkage and it's very obvious driving it that it's a direct rod linkage, but it's a huge improvement over the original.

How well does that set-up run?......We are going to do the same thing on a buddy's 83 Ranger 2.3.........It came stock with that miserable 1 bbl motorcraft, and put out less hp than a pinto (79hp vs 88hp) We have a Holley/weber 32-36 we are going to drop on and a header off a 2.3 Mustang.............See any difficulties?

Well, it runs better than it has since I got the truck. It's smoother, since the outer cylinders get the same mixture as the inners now all the time- The old Craptachi had the primary bore towards the outers, and the secondary towards the inners, where the mixture had to make a nearly 180º turn to go to the outers.

You have a lot more room between the frame and engine on a Ranger than I do, my frame rails are very close there. This engine only fits because Mazda mounted the starter off the transmission towards the rear like a Subaru.
