460 in a '64 F-250?

I have a '56 F600 that I maybe do doing a chassis swap on to a '64 F-250 with 4x4. 59flatbedford has also found me a 460 with auto trans. I only say maybe at this point in just depending on one offer I have at the moment for my '56, since it might work out very well for me.

If it doesn't, I'll be doing the swap. The f-600 has a rather massive frame so it's easiest just to swap the cab and front clip.

I was curious if anyone had any experience putting that powertrain into a '64 F-250 4x4, I've never dealt with a '64 before so I'm not sure what will fit and what won't without too much effort.

Thanks

If you are planning a chassis swap, why not go much newer and get one with a good running gear already installed?

What do you want to use the truck for when finished?

if you are going that route, i have a 97' f250 with a 460 and a auto trans that got in a slow speed roll so just the cab and sheet metal got trashed. I have it running and driving no problem all i had to do was put in the battery and fire it up. lol actually are you the guy from craigslist i talked to?

lol, huh i never made the conection till now. a 56 f600 from sheridan, like there is going to be alot of those running around. im going about to go pick up a 64 f250 2wd with a 292 actually. A project fell in my lap more or less. the body is in decent shape and the engine was rebuilt maybe 10 years ago and i bet it has fewer than 5k on it.

Oh, and the reason I'm not doing a newer chassis is basicly $$$. A F-600 is quite a bit heavier and by the time I get it down here I will actually have spent as much money to move it as I paid for the whole thing!

and lol, there is I think a '56 F-350 around town, near the airport.

Sounds pretty sweet about the '64, always cool to find a nice project

yah, to bad the project right now is to get it running so when my truck that i have now sells i have somthing to drive.

but about putting the 460 on a 64 im interested as well. Ive got the 460 and if the 64 turns into a long term truck it might be nice to have.

Could always use your old truck for your '64?

I was really thinking about it, unless someone else comes along that wants to buy it that is. at this point the money would be better than the truck but i doubt its going anywhere so ill probably use the 97 for parts.

hey, just checked the 64 and with some fuel filter changes it was running like a top. and i got some even better news. It has a 352 AND it looks like all i am going to have to do is build some fence for the guy. sorry about the off topicness and thread hijacking. just thought i would share the info, and bump the thread.

Stephen, Have you thought about moving the sheetmetal to like a retired school bus chassis?

Those old 50s big trucks were dogs to drive.

airharley is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
There are a few things to move around in the frame for the 64 4x2 but I don't know about the 4x4. In the 4x2 you have to cut off the front engine perch and rear engine mount cross member. Also swapping over to the rear sump is an added bonus for clearance if yours doesn't have it. A low mount passanger side alternator will fit by 1/2 inch at most. So be mindful of that when centering your engine adapter.
