I work my trucks for everything they got, I had 2 trucks with 7.3, and 2 with the v10, one 2v and one 3v. I would take a 7.3 first and foremost, then the 3v v10 based solely on performance, because honestly, the fuel economy sucks, in fact, its even worse than that, I dont know what rating to give that is worse than sucks.

I will NOT own a 6.0 or 6.4. I run an average of 100,000 miles a year and I need something that will hold up. Thats why I run Ford trucks and not the others.

As far as the 6.0 and 6.4, what a joke. Those engineers should have been fired on the spot. What pieces of crap. The 6.0 was flawed from day 1 when they made it emissions legal for light trucks and cheaped it up for mass production. The 6.4 gets the same crappy mileage as the v10 trucks. Whats the point of paying an extra $10,000 for the diesel when the gassers will pull the same load and last for more miles ? Show me a 6.0 or 6.4 with 300k on it and I will show you 2 v10 trucks with that same miles.

I guess if you are just getting groceries and taking the kids to soccer practice, the 6.0 or 6.4 will work, but pity the poor soul that buys one to work it.

end rant...

Funny you say this, as I can think of at least one FTE member who has over 90,000 miles on his 6.4, with most of his miles towing up to 15,000 lbs. With nothing more than a sensor problem.

Rant all you like, but please...PLEASE back it up. Where do you get your info from? Or is this just ill-informed speculation?

Until something better comes along, I love my 7.3... I'm a little biased... I love engines that are over built from the factory so that bolt on parts can be thought of as an investment rather than a liability, especially since most of us buy our SD's to work and play hard. If i had to replace my truck tomorrow... I'd go find a good condition 7.3 and recover the leather seats... which are about due on mine anyway.

On the same note, it's only fair to point out that I'm the gear head type. I love to do my own work and much prefer it be regular maintenance that gives me an excuse replace stuff with beefier parts... I'll have to do a lot more reading before I have an opinion on the new emissions systems... but emissions systems (as important as they might be) rarely have the owner of the vehicle in mind.

Then again, a few years ago people were making the same complaints about fuel injection vs carburetters.

I think the only real down fall to the 7.3L is the "V" config "I" would be better and the HEUI system. I think that is a big weak point in those motors. In stock form and a real mild tune they are fine but start trying to make some real diesel power and they hamper its ability. AS for the 6.0 i mean turbo, EGR head gasket problems and the list goes on. BUT BUT BUT i will give this to the 6.0L when they run they make some ok power.
