traction control

Hello. Ive had a 99 awd navigator for 7 years. I want an 06 now. I drive in the snow 5 or 6 times per year. Will the 4x2 rwd traction control be sufficient. Ive never driven a 4x2 rwd traction control in the snow. Thanks.

depends what you consider "driving in snow"

we talking North Carolina snow, upstate NY snow, or colorado rockies snow? If you are driving in the mountains, I wouldn't screw around with anything that wasn't 4wd and had good winter tires.

If you are talking the occasional "uh oh it snowed last night and I need to get to work" type snow, traction control should be fine. Traction control is great for helping you not get stuck, but is useless when it comes to getting out of being stuck.

If you are worried about gas mileage and 4x4 - disconnect the front driveshaft during the summer

just my $0.02

traction control

Thats right. Its the uh oh it snowed condition. Only 5 or 6 times a year its icy snow. The price difference is about 4 grand. I think it would be fine. I live at 2500 feet. I was wondering if its a lot better than plain old 4x2 rwd. Thanks

4x2 with traction control and good tires will be fine. I grew up with 4x1 cars, tractors and light trucks, and a motorcycle, all of which navigated the snow at one time or another, on the crappy tires we had. HOW you drive is a bigger factor in the snow.

x2 on the "how you drive in it" When I lived in upstate NY, it was (those of us with 4wd) that were in the ditch first.

If it's the uh oh it snowed, 4x2 should be fine, along with a good set of all season tires. Slowing down and paying attention helps also. We drive the miata around town in the snow a couple times a year and it's RWD too. The trucks only go to the mountains though.
