Question 1979 F-350 300 Mounts

I am swapping a 400 out for a 300six in my 79 F-350 4x4 What motor mounts do I use with the 400 frame mounts? I tried the 79 2wd 300six mounts and early 80's mounts but neither will work.

You don't.

I tried the 79 2wd 300six mounts and early 80's mounts but neither will work.
The 351M/400 4WD (or 2WD) engine mounts (perches) and rubber insulators are not the same as used with the 300 I-6.

1979 F350 4WD's were not available with the 300 I-6.

1979: Only the F150/250 4WD's were available with the 300.

You'll have to use the mounts (perches) and rubber insulators from a 1977 (after serial number Y20,001), 1978/79 F250 300 4WD.

Nothing from 1980 or later is the same.

I successfully used 400 perches in a 77 F250 Highboy 4x4, with a 300 six.

There are a couple sets of pre-drilled holes on the frame rail that the perches can be slid forward or back with, and the perches can be swapped from side to side.

Don't count out your perches before taking lots of measurements, is my advice.

The OP doesn't have a High Boy. The High Boys do not use the same perches as 1977 non High Boys, 1978/79's.

I understand we may not be talking about the same perches sir, just making the point that sometimes things work that you don't expect to.

Highboys do in fact share some frame crossmembers as some of the F350's into the mid 80's, but I haven't a clue about the F350 4x4's.

C7TZ6028A .. Right & C7TZ6029A .. Left Perch.

Fits 240/300 I-6: 1967/76 F250 4WD & 1977 F250 4WD before serial number Y20,001 (240 = 1967 thru 1974).

Before serial number Y20,001: What some people refer to as 1977.5 inre to High Boys.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not one frame crossmember from any 1979 or earlier F100/350 2WD or 4WD has the same Ford part number as 1980 and later.

The Ford part numbers I listed above (C7TZ6028A & C7TZ6029A) are NOT correct for late 1977, 1978/79 F250 4WD's. These are High Boy perches.

The following are the correct Ford part numbers for LATE 1977's, 1978/79 F250 4WD's (non High Boys) with the 300 I-6.

D7TZ6028E .. Right Engine Perch / Obsolete

D7TZ6029E .. Left Engine Perch / Obsolete

No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

I had this same questions a few weeks ago. I just got my motor mocked up into position and fabbed up my own motor mounts. It was a lot of work but easier than finding obsolete Ford part numbers. Mine are all bolt in and are not welded to the frame.

If you would like I could snap a few pictures in the morning. Is your truck an auto or manual? There are a few other things that you will have to think about with the 300 swap. The throttle linkage and pedal are different and so is the clutch linkage mount if you are running the 300.
