Since I bought my 2000 E150 7 months ago, I have been bugged that I can't hear the blinker flasher. I've found myself leaving the blinker on by accident when changing lanes on the freeway. With the AC on hi and the stereo cranked, there is no way my old ears are gonna hear that factory flasher.
I must not be the only person that can't hear the flasher because I have noticed a number of Ford vans rolling down the freeway with the blinker on by mistake.
I searched all over for a 3 prong LOUD flasher and could not find anything. A further search came up up with an item that did work. It's the Tridon LF12-K. It's a 2 prong flasher, but comes with a 1 foot adapter wiring harness. The falsher is louder than the factory unit, but what made it work best was the fact that there was enough wire for me to mount it on the outside of the left side of the dash below the intrument cluster.
Now with the air on full blast and the radio cranked, I will not be leaving my blinker on by mistake. I got my kit from RockAuto and the price with shipping was around $15.00.
I like the way mine works. It turns off automatically when I straighten out after a turn.
My old 91 Caravan had a good idea implemented in it. After the turn signal is on for approx. 1 min. it dings the little dinger bell; the same one that dings when lights are left on, keys left in the ignition, etc.
Yes, 2000Ford, my blinkers also cancel after turning a corner. They do not cancel when changing lanes on the freeway. I've seen several Ford vans running down the highway for miles with their blinker on and they are not turning. I must not be the only one not able to hear the flasher. Guess everyone around this board has better ears than me since no one has chimed in that they can't hear the flasher either.
Honesty I don't think most people usually go by the sound do they? When I was taking driver's training 30 years ago they taught us to just lightly press on the turn signal stalk and hold it there while changing lanes, so the only time I've left mine on was when I come off of a turn that wasn't sharp enough to cancel the signal. I just figured that everyone did it this way.
Anyway, I put the smiley face after my post there as that is internet speak for 'making a joke.' I wasn't serious that you didn't know that it cancels on a turn.
I've not noticed just Fords with the blinkers on. Most of them I see are those drivers that are old enough to remember before there were cars.

OK, I'll chime in too. I not only can't hear my blinkers, I can't see the arrows either! No, I'm not blind......... I have to use my flashers quite often, and find myself driving around town in my 01 E350 'flashing' a lot. I too have had a car where the signals would chime when left on, which was good.
You are correct. I can't see the flashing arrows in the day time either. At night it is no problem. I've been rolling around for 3 days with this new flasher and I can now hear it over the music and AC.
Glad to find out I'm not the only person that can't hear the factory flasher.
That's the very reason I always take my wife with me where ever I go. She also keeps me calm when confronted with idiot drivers, helping keep me from being one. Sometimes it works.
P.S. The diesel engine doesn't help much in hearing the blinkers either.
