On the 86-91's the jack handle is the thing that's where the hood prop would be on a car. One end is attached close to the windshield washer tank. In any event, Ford factory jacks are crap. I've attempted to use mine several times, for both my truck and for friends' cars. For whatever reason, they never seem to lift as high as you would think they would. You can change good tires with them, but not flats. I keep a General Motors scissor jack with me, because unlike every other make it has a conveniently hinged, permanently attached handle, and has a range of about 8".
