Kind of the same way they rolled out the 2008 in 2007, and they're already selling the 2011 trucks now in 2010. The difference in the 99 and the newer roll outs is there are 2007 and 2010 trucks out there. On the newer stuff it was a big motor change made with the roll out (due to EPA regulations). On the 99, it was a few motor tweaks with a major body overhaul.
Thanks for the clarification! I just joined (12/11/2010) and have been baffled by lack of a "1998". I just bought a 1998 E350 7.3 PSD Club Wagon and am trying to educate myself. Mine has 289,000, but the local Ford dealer diesel truck service manager said it was in good shape. Looks like it has a recent Remanufactured trans.
