1974 f100 302 ignition points/distributor problems

hello
i recently bought this truck running but leaked oil from base of distributor so i bought and replaced the rubber oring gasket for shaft of distributor. i marked postion of rotor making sure to put it back in same location. as i was finishing up i always check to see if everything is tight i checked the ignition points and screws were loose as i started tightening them they moved (i said a few inappropriate words because i just knew i did something wrong) when i turn the key i get alot of engine spinning with no start. i found from another site saying to set points to .32 . also how do i use the timing light on truck the crank timing marker is out of sight hidden under the alternator on the passenger side top of crank you cant shine a timing light on it from what i see. please forgive me if i am using sentence run on and improper grammar i am a construction worker not a english teacher
