it can be changed without pulling the engine but it sounds like your sump is stopped up to me. And changing it without pulling the engine is a pain, you have to take out the motor mounts and lift the engine and trans as far up as possible and drop the oil pan and you will barley be able to fit you hand in there to change it but it can be done I have done it.
