I have a 99 that was built 2/99. I ran into the same problem. I bought 2 newer style hubs and 2 new rotors and switched to the new style. Total cost was less than just one of the old style hubs. Only difference was the flange thickness(newer hubs have a thicker flange). Been on for over 5K miles.

do you mean that you can't get the axles out of the spindle? You will need to pry the axle out as the spindle seal holds the axle in. You will want to replace the spindle seal as well if you are taking them out.
I just replaced my ball joints and axle u-joints today, so it is very fresh in my mind
