Unit 45 of the Santa Fe National Forest

Got lucky with an elk tag this year. Bow 9/1 - 9/22. It was my third choice after 34 and 36. Don't know the area like down here. The whole unit encompases the Santa Fe National Forest and the Pecos Wilderness in the SFNF. Going up to do some scouting this weekend or next. Preliminary plan is to camp along Hwy 63 North of Pecos or 65 North of Las Vegas. Would prefer to say off the Wilderness but will walk in there and pack it out if thats where there at. Trail system looks pretty good within the whole forest. Got the state BLM quadrant maps last week and got the Forest Service maps on the way off the net. Does anybody know where they might be concentrated at? If there up high why wouldn't they be on high ground in the SFNF like Baldy and Elk mountains. Anyways, any help w/ this area is really appreciated. I'm gonna work my butt off filling this tag.
