almost sounds like you forgot the cups on the bottom of the springs? If I recall correctly the bottom of the spring should sit about 1 or 2 inch above that nut. If your old springs did not touch the new ones should not as well. AS before please post a picture of the springs mounted then maybe we can see whats wrong here.
