That's on a 2wd, on a 4x4 I just use a 6mm hex key since the ratchet doesn't fit.


I've never gotten a "diesel bath" as some people have reported.
Great write-up (in your link) DCSpecial. Thanks. You definitely have more room w/ a 2-wheel drive than the 4x4. I have pretty much always had the "improved" drain plug and am very happy with it. However, the o-ring did swell on me a few weeks ago and it was hard to take it out - even with pliers. I guess I can see how the OEM plug could strip out if it got as hard to remove as my "improved" plug. I took the o-ring off of the OEM plug and it works great now / again.

As to the diesel bath - sounds like that may be somewhat exaggerated, but again I haven't done the job with the OEM plug - only going by what I have read in a number of posts in the past.

The responses have been great - thanks to all for improving the usefulness of this thread.
