Well in case anyone ever searches out this thread in the future it should be known that replacing the thermostat appears to have fixed the problem. I replaced the old one with a Motorcraft 192 F degree one and everything appears to be working correctly.

Thanks for the suggestions from everyone and if this ends up not fixing the problems I will make sure to post my next step, hopefully it will help someone else in the future.
