The spout connector is located just below the cruise control servo; it has two wires going into a connector with a molded plastic jumper connected to it. Remove it before advancing the base timing. You should notice a difference if you add 2-3 degrees.

There are shift kits available for your E4OD which will firm and quicken up your shifts and minimize wear during shift transmissions. These kits are fairly inexpensive and relatively easy to install.
