I had tire wear before just as you described and it turned out to be bad ball joints.

Jack up the front of your truck and grab one of the tires from the top and bottom and try to move it back and forth. If you have any movement at all and I mean any, you need new ball joints.

When this happened to me, I replaced the ball joints and rotated the tires and didn't have a problem after that.
