First the proper forum for this question is in the section that has your year truck listed in it, you will have many more people who work on that model equipment and you will get a much greater voice of experience in that forum. But I have had this trouble with a 64 I own, the trouble is not the springs its the hinges, you see the pin area is worn oblong and with the spring on it pull the hood into another position raising the hood at the rear.
