Gearing is a big player in mpgs while towing. My X (weighing more that a F250) towing my ~9k TT will get 8-10 depening on terrain and speed. But I have the 3.73 gears - I know others that have the 4.30s and are getting 1-2 mpgs more because they can stay in OD more often.

Another huge factor is what you are towing. My TT stands an easy 5 feet above the top of my X when hooked up - a lower profile trailer would produce less drag and increase mpgs.


As far as empty - I generally get 14 in mixed driving and 16 on the open intersate @ ~65 mph (2200 rmps). This is where the 3.73 gears are good - the 4.30s would yield about 1-2 mpgs less in this case.

If you need a truck, you pretty much cannot go wrong with the v10 - it's a rock solid engine that will give years of worry free miles.
