Switch the engine? Hmmm, I was comparing the SOHC belhousing to a 3.0L the other day (SOHC/Explorer and 3.0L/Ranger) that we had sitting on the floor, well the bolt patterns were different on the back of the blocks, now I'm not sure if the pushrod 4.0 matches the 3.0 or the SOHC, maybe the SOHC matches the 5.0. I know none of that was helpful, but I love the idea of you taking another SOHC motor to the junkyard and putting another 4.0 pushrod on the road instead, lol. I'll do some checking at work tomorrow and see what I can find out. If nothing else you have to change all your wiring and pcm over, now some of the tranny wiring is also in that harness, if your ranger had an auto in it, I'd just throw it all in and be done, that would eliminate your engine bolting up problems. When I was lookin at the SOHC and 3.0L the other day I had commented to the other tech that ford still didn't learn, JUST USE ONE OR TWO BOLT PATTERNS!!! That is the one thing that put chevy ahead in the performance world, there are a lot of motivated ppl, those are the ppl that put a 454 where a 350 was, then there's the super motivated ppl, well...... they do engine swapping in Fords.
