D4 is 1974, so no previous year engine could have used a D4 casting number.

Prior to 1974, the service part number bare block was: D1TZ-6010-B. The casting number for this block could have been D0 or D1. The D1TZ block replaced: C9TZ-C. C9TZ-C replaced C8TZ-B. C8TZ-B replaced the original 1968 302 block: C8ZZ-6010-A.

I say again, the 3rd digit could be D for Maverick, or T for truck, or Z for Mustang..but casting numbers do not translate to actual part numbers and all these blocks were used in everything Ford offered the 302 engine in: Ford; Fairlane; Torino; Mustang; Maverick; F100 (69/72) yadda yadda yadda.

The 302 HiPo used a different block.

Maverick = 1970/77 Introduced midyear 1969. No Maverick or Comet offered a 302 V8 till 1971.

Granada = 1975/82.

302 engine introduced spring 1968.
