I had the 4wd lights flashing too but I removed and cleaned my xfr case motor and have not had a problem since. Took about an hour for the whole job. Used some emery cloth and electrical cleaner to clean the motor armature.
That's the first I've heard of a xfr case motor being the cause of the 4x4 flashing. I replaced my motor because a shop said it was bad and that didn't cure the problem.
