Police offer tips for stopping GPS thefts—
Prompted by numerous GPS thefts across Maryland, police are handing out microfiber cloths to remove evidence of the suction cups used to hold the expensive directional tools.
Montgomery County police are distributing 1,200 cloths this week at the Montgomery County Fair in Gaithersburg to emphasize the need for removing the GPS unit and wiping off the windshield to remove evidence of the suction cup. Carroll County Sheriff's Office says not hiding the units - or evidence of them - has led to an "enormous amount of thefts from automobiles in the past year." Howard County police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn said motorists should lock the device in the trunk of the car.
