460 Questions - Different years

All -

Some time ago I posted asking what if any problems I might have if I was to aquire a 1983 F250 4x4 with the 460, and swap it in to my 1978 F350 Super Cab Trailer special 2x4.

The answer was is would go, and there shouldn't be any issues.

I did notice through going to two autoparts stores and asking for price/availability on the following items:

Head gasket
Oil Pan Gasket
Valve Cover Gaskets
Intake Manifold Gaskets
Exhaust Manifold Gaskets
Oil Pump
Water pump
Carb Baseplate Gasket
Timing Cover Gasket

Etc, that the only notable difference was the Carb Baseplate gasket was the only difference, and that was because the 83 was a Emmisions compliant.

However, here is my delima. After removing the power steering pump it was clear that the this 460 was not the original engine in the truck because of the huge hole in the crossmember someone had used a cutting torch to remove to allow for the oil filter to fit.

So, my question is, how can I tell, if at all, what year this engine might be, or what it may have come out of?

Is there a difference between a Car 460 and a Truck 460? And if so, what?

Thanks,
-Chris
