I've got Cooper Arctic Claw 10-ply snowtires on my 2001. No real complaints. Running on Michelin LTX's I couldn't even get out of my driveway after the first snow. These grab pretty well and don't even make much noise on dry pavement. They seem to be holding together ok even after 15K miles, which is good for snows.
