and i do know that some rangers had 5 speeds that would bolt up to 302
No. They did not. The 2.3L, 3.0L, and 4.0L all have different bellhousing bolt patterns totally dissimilar to the small-block V8, 300-6, etc.
The 2.3/3.0/4.0L tranny can be used with an adaptor.
The 4.0L version will hold up to a stock or mildly build 302, but will give in once upgrades have been made to the engine. Clutch will go first.
The 2.3L and 3.0L version will snap the minute you take off hard even with a stock 302. They cannot take the power output.
The 4.0L shares nothing with the 3.8/4.2L or the 3.9L. The 4.0L is a Cologne series engine from Germany. The only engines that share that bolt pattern is the 4.0L OHV and 4.0L SOHC.
3.0L is totally unique. The 2.3L shares a bolt pattern with it's alternate version the 2.5L.
You will need the M5OD-R2 out of an F-150, as said before.
