You are way out there aren't you.
The articles you provided are probably a lot more interesting to refiners than the average guy on the street running a IDI.
One of the biggest hurdles refiners are all trying to overcome these days is the shortage of hydrogen they need for all the hydrotreaters used to remove sulphur from fuel to meet the new low sulphur fuels regulations.
Turning the waste product from Biodiesel production (Glycerol) into Hydrogen would be a huge benefit to the refiners if they could only get past the dino oil thinking they are stuck in.
