i'll get flamed outta the forum here, but when it comes to cost and reliability, as well as aftermarket parts, it's hard to beat a jeep cherokee. i got one for my daily driver and it gets around pretty good on the trails too. they've already got a straight axle and upgrades for them are cheap(chromoly axles,etc..), and you can buy a 4.5" lift or under 500 bucks and that'll clear 33's no problem. add the 2 inch spring spacers kit for 80 dollars and you're rolling 35's with lots of flex and no rubbing. plenty of room for the kids or drunken buddies and 3 coolers in the back cargo area...
