Actually, this isn't a "deduction", it's an actual "refund" for up too $2000 for the first two years of college.

My tax lady and I ran the numbers to see what it would be if I were to claim independent from my parents... I would get back around $200... instead of paying $1100. Also, don't forget... if they didn't claim me, I wouldn't have to go off of their income for finacial aid, therefore it would save me money by qualifying me for help from the government.

Anyways, sure, I've let it go...
