thanks Numbers.. I have the 292 V8... and the end of my speedometer cable is steel.. but my question remains, this is not fitting up to the gear inside the transmission housing.. I'm wondering if this is not the original trans? I think it is because I had some work done on it and they said something about getting the "original" parts for it but still could be a different trans. Can I USE a different cable for maybe a different year that is slightly bigger in diameter? Would you know the years I could use? I know I'm asking a lot.. thanks so much for your reply..
