Hey Russ, check out the MAX-A/C assist mod. Sounds like the stock set up you have still has the coolant running through the heater core when the a/c is on. You add a vac operated valve and T-piece so that the coolant flow to the heater core is turned off when the HVAC control is on max-AC.
