I don't know about the Op reasons but I hardly ever rebuild an engine. The reason is, I can find real good running used engines for about 10-15% of what it costs to have one rebuilt right, even doing the assembly myself.
On the 95, I would look to trade the 4x4 transmission/transfer case for a 2wd transmission.
