It'll tow better than a 302. There otherwise, there is no replacement for displacement, except for maybe a blower or something.

If he was towing all the time, I'd go for the 460. If he's only going to towing a 3000lbs for 20miles on occassion, a 300 will do the job as long as you don't have to make any time schedules.
