I don't think that model needs a good battery to hold shut (not sure) but they also make a manual version that works on a lever, not a switch. They were never intended for long term parking, more for workers who had to get in and out a lot in the course of their work.
The Mico Lock is expensive, you can find ones that do the same thing for a fraction of the cost.
