AC Compressor Clutch Air Gap on Gasser?

I read up on springerpop's article about the compressor clutch air gap. It says for diesels. Would this same procedure apply for gassers?

My AC has not been as cool as when I first got it. I'm going to clean off the condensor and check this gap. If those don't work, then freon charge.

Is there a procedure on freon charge? Which refrigerant? I have a bottle of R134A.
