I haven't had my truck done but I did have the Mustang done just as you described. The car was basicily a shell when it went to the painter and had very minor rust spots the were repaired with metal. They did strip the old paint down to bare metal. The job was a base coat /clear coat. it cost 7K. I am doing the body work on my 48 myself, hoping to save a few bucks.
