Wheel fitment for 1998 Super Cab 4X4 XLT

I believe I've read that Ranger wheel specs are the same from the 80's until current. My question is, I have an 1998 Super Cab, 4X4, 4.0 V6, auto trans, XLT. I also have rims from a 1988 Super Cab 4X4 15x7, part number E87A-1007-BA. They are the American Racing style wheels. They seem to have the same backspacing as well as bolt circle. I believe I'll need different lug nuts, but are they other wise OK? What I have on now are 16X7 steel wheels with the chrome skin and one has rusted between the skin and the rim so bad it leaks down to 10 psi in one day, and the others are on their way. With 70 series on the 16's and 75 series on the 15's, the circumference is very close. I have the '88 wheels on the front and they seem to be fine but I want to benefit of the experience of this group, Thanks, Tony
