It seems unlikely that changing the chip position caused your problem...... especially if replacing the cam sensor corrected it for a few minutes.

I have actually had a T/S style chip fry itself right there in the PCM port, but when I pulled the chip the truck ran perfectly.

A voltage spike through the chip can fry the pcm, but the only times I can remember hearing about that happening is when people were removing/installing the chip with the key in the ignition.

Did your CEL come on? If it's driveable I'd put a couple of drive cycles on it without the chip and rescan it.
