Type F hasn't been used since the late 70's/early 80's.
I was talking about the power steering fluid spec, not transmission. My 87 owners manual calls for type F in the power steering pump, and I'm pretty sure the 94 I took an engine from called for the same thing.

It doesn't make any difference if the thing you are lubing doesn't have clutches like the trans does.

The motorcraft Mercon V page linked to by FORDF250HDXLT also says not to use in applications that specified Type F.
